Earthsavers Movement Uganda Chapter

Formed in 1997, the major objectives of Earthsavers Movement Uganda Chapter (EMUC) are to initiate and creatively communicate interdisciplinary and holistic approaches for environmental concerns; to promote sustainable development strategies underscoring population, health, housing, livelihood and education and in balance with environmental protection, promote judicious and equitable use of natural resources and preservation of indigenous cultural heritage; to bridge and network global concerns and institutions for local action in the Uganda setting; and to raise awareness in securing and restoring a clean, healthy, orderly and peaceful environment for us and our future generations.

Purpose of Organization:

To pursue holistic and interdisciplinary approaches that promotes environmentally friendly, healthy and planned environments to uplift the socio-economic situation of the people in the present and future generations.

GEF/SGP involvement:

We are currently implementing the “Drought resistant crop production and harnessing water resources for food security, production and livelihood improvement in Rupa Sub County, Moroto District”, a government of Uganda programme funded by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Uganda and implemented through World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Uganda Country Office under “Strengthening Sustainable Environmental and Natural Resource Management for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Uganda” SENRMCAM SGS. It started in June 2013.


We participated under Climate Action Network Uganda in providing inputs into the making of the Draft Climate Change Policy for Uganda. We Participated in the 3rd Expanded Constituency Workshop for Eastern Africa that discussed GEF 6 replenishment processes. We participated in Global Minamata Campaigns as members of the Zero Mercury Working Group and IPEN and provided inputs to INC 3 and INC 4 that eventually led to the enactment of a convention on mercury.
