Union "Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia" (EECG)

Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia (EECG) was established in 1998 by European Union within the framework of the EU Tacis Project "Creation of an Energy Efficiency Centre and Development Natural Energy Study in Georgia". In April 2005, the “The Energy Efficiency and Cleaner Production Centre EECP”, which was established at 2003, within the framework of the Georgian - Norwegian Capacity Building Program on Energy Efficiency and Cleaner Production, was integrated into Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia. Since its establishment EECG has implemented more that 60 projects related to the renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change policies. More specific, EECG has implemented and on-going awareness rising, capacities building and demonstration projects serving for promotion of renewable energy.

Purpose of Organization:

-       Support to renewable energy and energy efficiency utilization for sustainable development and as a result improve national energy security level and minimize negative environmental impact.
-       Increase awareness of the civil society and the country’s decision makers on the environmentally friendly and economically sound ways of energy production and consumption as well as on the potential for renewable energy and energy efficiency.

GEF/SGP involvement:

In 2014 EECG implemented the project “Demonstration Projects for Supporting of Implementation of Sustainable Energy Action Plans in Covenant of Mayors (CoM) Georgian Signatory Cities” financed by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme in Georgia.


EECG has extensive experience in all aspects of renewable energy (RE) resources and energy efficient (EE) application. During 18 years of operation, EECG has implemented more than 80 projects. These include feasibility studies, technical and economic studies, comprehensive market research, pilot and demonstration projects, trainings in various RE & EE technologies, promotion and dissemination, project financing, as well as a deep understanding of the wider policy and investment issues facing the energy sector. The organization works very actively on clean energy awareness raising among civil society, decision makers and population at large advocating for environmentally friendly and economically sound ways of energy production and consumption. Also EECG is actively involved in climate policy in terms of Covenant of Mayors Policy for Climate and Energy as well supporting municipalities to reduce CO2 emissions through establishment of renewable and energy efficient technologies as well as to become more sustainable cities.
EECG is actively working with municipalities of major cities in Georgia on capacity building of their personnel, development of energy efficient action plans and guidelines for municipal energy planning and manuals in energy auditing, trainings, implementation of pilot projects, awareness raising campaigns and organization of annual Sustainable Energy Weeks-multi-action and multi-player events, including: exhibition of local suppliers/manufacturers of clean energy technologies, exhibition of architectural projects, posters, annual conferences of schoolchildren with presentation of thematic projects and award ceremonies of the authors of the best works, thematic contests among media professionals, etc. ECCG has worked for major donors and have collaborated with top international engineering firms and energy consultants. Clients and associates include the EU, USAID, IFC, WB, EBRD, UNDP, UNECE, BP-Georgia,UNDP in Georgia, and many international consulting and engineering firms. EECG also cooperates actively with local communities, civil society organizations private sector (SMEs) working in renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change issues. With the donor support for years EECG has been working on promotion of energy efficiency among the communities throughout Georgia working with various groups of population and media.
