Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Namibia

DAPP Namibia carries out welfare and development work to assist the people of Namibia in improving the quality of life in the country. The main areas of development efforts lie in education and training, health interventions for prevention especially in HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and preventable diseases among children, environmental education including tree planting, community development and community mobilization among the poor to empower the people to improve their living conditions and assist those in need such as OVCs. In short it is about helping people to help themselves.

Purpose of Organization:

The main objective of the association is 1) to carry out welfare and development work for economical and social development in Namibia and 2) to help children, young people and families in distress or in need of assistance.

Combating Land Degradation and Enhancing Sustainable Forests: Community Awareness and Action in Northern Namibia (2012 -2014)

Experience:

Environmental sustainability and benefits is included in a cross-cutting theme in all projects and programmes operated by DAPP Namibia. Educational programmes, including Vocational and school training, aim to provide students with an understanding of the interaction between humans and the environment and the importance of promoting the sustainable use of resources. Community Development projects with 10 lines of activities designed to assist 3000 families in each project in an organized way to improve their living conditions. Activities include health education and actions, income generating activities, life skills training and environmental activities focused on protecting biodiversity, soil, water and natural resources. Agricultural development projects, which are being initiated in Northern Namibia in collaboration with the Namibian Nature Foundation (NNF) have been developed to facilitate adaptation to and mitigation of climate change through improved soil and water management and through the introduction of agroforestry methods intended to increase on-farm biodiversity.
