Hope for Mothers & Children Agency (HOMACA)

Hope for Mothers and Children Agency (HOMACA) is an independent and non-for-profit Community Based Organization (CBO) established in 1999 and registered in 2012 by Rubirizi District Local Government Reg. No 406 with a primary goal of building a society that appreciates Children and mothers to enjoy their rights and take responsibility to make them realize their full potential. In all its undertakings, HOMACA is committed to addressing the needs of the most marginalized and vulnerable children and Mothers in grassroots by rendering their voices audible rather than speaking on their behalf.

Purpose of Organization:

To improve community livelihoods by promoting women and children participation in sustainable development through shared responsibility.

Experience:

In climate change, HOMACA is currently implementing the project titled Promoting appropriate eco-friendly energy saving technologies in communities around kasyoho kitomi central forest reserve. The project is implementing communities to understand and adopt climate change mitigation activities and putting in place, restoration of Kasyoha kitomi forest reserve degraded areas, promoting apiary management in forest communities and production and integration of use of eco-friendly energy saving cook stoves. The project is funded by the government of Uganda, supported United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) implemented by World Wide Fund for nature Uganda country office (WWF UCO) and Hope for Mothers and Children Agency (HOMACA). The project is aiming at Strengthening sustainable Environment and Natural Resource Management, Climate change Adaptation and Mitigation in Uganda (SENRMCAM). In Biodiversity, HOMACA has partnered with Pro-biodiversity Conservationists in Uganda (PROBICOU) to carryout research in areas of Kicwamba, Kyambura and Katerera sub-counties. The study aimed at hippo conservation and their impact on agriculture in the communities of Kyamwiga, Mbuga, Katonya and Rukoma villages. HOMACA has also been involved a study aimed at Human Wildlife conflict in general around queen Elizabeth national park protected area in western Uganda. This study was supported by Poverty and Conservation learning group and Jane Good all Institute.
