Date of Establishment:

24-Sep, 2012

Purpose of Organization:

NADEP was created   with the core purpose of playing a pivotal role in poverty reduction especially among marginalized, underprivileged and minority communities by empowering them to protect their rights and attain sustainable livelihoods.

Experience:

The major concern in this area of work of NADEP is the decline in the fertility of arable land in Cameroon. Here we look at the role of livestock in the integrated management of soil fertility. Maintaining or increasing soil fertility is one of the most important things farmers have to do to increase output. Doing so, farmers have to know how to use sustainable agricultural practices and methods for conserving them and making them more fertile. We encourage farmers to rear livestock (chicken) which provide droppings used in improving soil fertility. In this project farmers, collect the manure from the fowls, and then apply the manure to their crops. Through local partners and volunteers, NADEP provides training to farmers on soil management best practices and how to adapt to climate change. These trainings have within the last few years helped farmers to improve on their soil fertility and thus increase food production.
