LEAD Southern and Eastern Africa

Leadership for Environment and Development, Southern and Eastern Africa (LEAD SEA) is an affiliate programme of LEAD International, a non-profit organization based in the UK. LEAD SEA was established in 1994 under Scientific and Industrial Development Centre (SIRDC) in Harare (Zimbabwe), moved to Lusaka, Zambia and later relocated to Chancellor College (University of Malawi) in 2004. At Chancellor College, LEAD SEA is under the Faculty of Science and is the main collaborating centre for leadership for sustainable development and training

Purpose of Organization:

LEAD SEA’s mission is to create, strengthen and support networks of leaders and institutions promoting change towards sustainable development through capacity development and strategic, outcome-oriented activities consisting of policy, research, communications, and training

Experience:

LEAD SEA has experience and a major thrust on three focal areas of the GEF: Biodiversity (18 Years), Climate Change (5 years) and Land Degradation (18 Years). Currently, LEAD SEA is implementing capacity building programmes and projects on leadership, environment and sustainable development in Southern and Eastern Africa (http://www.population.gov.za/pop_dev/index.php/Capacity-Building/LEAD-PED-NEXUS.html) and a climate change project in Malawi (http://www.lakechilwaproject.mw/).
