Ojope Farmers and Rural Dwellers Development Association (OFRDDA)

Ojope Farmers and Rural Dwellers Development Association (OFRDDA) was formed as Ojope Development Association (ODA) in the year 2000 to reduce rural poverty, educate farmers especially women on climate change risk and adaptation through the promotion of sustainable forest, agricultural and water management practices in rural communities of Benue State Nigeria. In October, 2011 the organization was registered as an incorporated trustee with the Reg No CAC/IT/No 48000. OFRDDA is the PIA for NGA/SGP/OP4/Y3/CORE/10/026 “integrating livelihood enhancement and alternative project-into-sustainable land management (ILEAP-SLM)”and has successfully completed 1 rice mill, 1 palm oil mill, establishment of 2 ha dry season farm and 6 ha reforestation project and 2 cassava mill project.

Purpose of Organization:

To educate farmers especially women on climate change risk and adaptation through the promotion of sustainable forest, renewable energy, agricultural, land, water management practices, through information, communication technology in rural communities of Nigeria.

GEF/SGP involvement:

NDP GEF SGP supported “integrating livelihood enhancement and alternative project-into-sustainable land management” (ILEAP-SLM) with project number NGA/SGP/OP4/Y3/CORE/10/026. THE PROJECT WAS IMPLEMENTED FROM MARCH, 2011 T0 JUNE, 2012

Experience:

Others include the construction of a 10m bridge to connect over 15 communities with about 6500 people in Apa and Agatu LGA of Benue State to Kogi State to enhance their economic and health needs all year round. THE PROJECT WAS TO REDUCE POVERTY AND ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION THROUGH FOOD SECURITY AND AFFORESTATION
