  Ghana Holds First GEF National Portfolio Formulation Exercise

Ghana Environmental Conventions Coordinating Authority (GECCA) on behalf of Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST) has organized the first National Portfolio Formulation Exercise (NPFE) to discuss allocation of Ghana’s GEF 5 resources to the three (3) focal areas-Climate Change, Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Land Management. The two workshops were held on the 30th November and 14th December 2011 at the conference of MEST. 

The workshop includes representatives from the government sector, civil society including two (2) GEF–NGO Network members and the Regional Focal Point for West and Central Africa based in Ghana. Other participants who attended the meeting include the representatives of the Focal Points of UNFCCC, UNCCD, CBD, the GEF Focal Point and the Secretary to the National Climate Change Committee.


Key issues discussed centered on the prioritization of projects and the full participation of civil society organizations in the implementation of projects.
The meeting also recognizes the important role the GEF NGO Network is playing within the country and the sub-region and promise full support for the activities of the network.
